Nothing for those who Keep People Fed. The Fast Food Industry and COVID-19

The government’s current relief bill doesn’t cover many McDonald’s workers and the company hasn’t stepped up. One of Mcdonald’s company values is to, “Invest in all the people our success rest on.” However, a video posted by the New York Times shows a shift manager at a McDonalds who doesn’t understand why the company will not guarantee paid sick leave for all its workers. The company brought in 5.3 Billion USD last year and has done little to help workers during the Coronavirus outbreak. McDonald’s lobbied against parts of the legislation put in the relief bill signed by President Trump. The new law guarantees sick leave to 20% of private-sector workers and many of the companies franchise workers get nothing. This is a serious issue because how would you feel getting McDonald’s if you knew sick workers were still coming to work?
