A tweet from President Trump
Who has heard that Trump believes that global climate change is a hoax and that China made it up to get ahead in the economy? So does anyone believe that?
On March 16th, President Trump began the first steps to undo Obama’s climate change legacy. In Trump’s inaugural budget, he proposed to decrease funding for EPA’s budget by around 2.7 billion dollars. This would rid the funding for several environmental problems, one of which includes Obama’s plan to decrease emissions from the power plants in America. Commenting on this issue, Gina McCarthy, Obama’s last EPA chief said, “You can’t put ‘America First’ when you put the health of its people and its country last.”
Trump’s proposal is also coming three months after scientists have reported that 2016 was the hottest year. Sixteen out of seventeen hottest days in history have happened this century.
The Paris Climate Pact was a success for everyone since a global deal was settled, but now the Trump administration is going to undo this progress by not following through with Obama’s climate commitments. The White House budget director, Mick Mulvaney, who also created those proposed cuts, confirmed that it is a waste of money to fund the prevention of climate change. Already the Senate is not in approval of the proposal. Therefore, Trump has claimed that these policies will pass when in fact they will not.
Do you think that there can be a compromise between democrats and republicans on this budget cut to keep both sides happy?
